In Secrets Can Kill, Stay Tuned for Danger, and Secrets Can Kill: Remastered, secret codes are hidden throughout the environment. In the firstCan Kill: Remastered are canon, as Jake Rogers worked at Maxine's Diner and was the library aide at Paseo del Mar High School, having the proper access and ability to print and place them. They contained clues to what he was up to, in case he would be murdered.

Napkin Dispenser

On the napkin dispenser at Maxine's, the numbers 1, 5, 10 and 11 are red. These are the letters that spell "JAKE" in the alphabet.

Wall Menu

The menu behind Daryl has some letters that are red. On the left, they spell soup ladle, and on the right, they spell bolt cutter. This is the same in Secrets Can Kill: Remastered, but a closeup of it is not obtainable.

Schedule

At the bottom of the work schedule at Maxine's, there is a number to letter code which says "Jake's fate happened deliberately. Gravity was not his worst enemy."

Bolt Cutter Message

On a billboard in the school, a code with improperly placed spaces reads "There's more than one way to remove a chain so thick. Aside from the combination, Mel's bolt cutter can do the trick." This has a double meaning; Nancy can use the bolt cutters or use the combination to remove the chains.

Couple Message

On a billboard in the school, a message pad is posted upside down with the words "In the face of danger, against a killer if you dare, a very unlikely couple could be a helpful pair." on it. This refers to Connie and Daryl at the end of the game.

Gun Message

On a billboard at the school, a mirrored upside down message reads "When things go astray tonight at Vandelay, it will not help to run, so you must grab the gun!".

Kitchen Message

On a billboard in the school, a message has certain letters on it underlined which read "Search below danger sign in kitchen", giving a clue as to how to find the bolt cutters.

Play Notice

Three Messages

One of the bulletin boards in the school has three messages on it. The first is backwards and upside down and when read from bottom to top, it says "Nowhere to turn to, nowhere to hide. Let the books in the library be your answer guide." The second one uses the same code but is not upside down, and says "A symbol of kanji worn with great pride reflects a big secret that someone must hide." The third code is mirrored and upside down, and says "He did what it took to make the grade, even if it meant cheating to keep up his charade."
