Jane Willoughby is Gloria Crandall's friend and intended guardian to Gloria's daughter, Emily.
Jane and Gloria used to be dressmakers and own a dress shop in Capital City. Gloria had written her a letter asking her to take care of her daughter Emily in case she ever died. In 1930, Gloria did die and Emily wrote Jane a letter asking her to be her guardian. However, it was intercepted by Marion Aborn, who came to the inn instead, as Emily had never met Jane and didn't know what she looked like. Nancy can read a letter from Jane in Emily's room which talks about how nosy Marion is and mentions that she was looking through her purse.
